The Research Institute for Discrete Mathematics is a central scientific institution of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (University of Bonn).

The members of the institute perform their academic duties in the Fachgruppe (Section) of Mathematics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences; the professors are also secondary members of the Fachgruppe (Section) Computer Science.

The Research Institute for Discrete Mathematics is one of the responsible bodies of the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics (Cluster of Excellence) and is in charge of the research area "Combinatorial optimization, complexity, and chip design".

The Research Institute is spatially and organizationally closely related to the Arithmeum.
